Swimming banned at Cala Cerrada beach, La Zenia due to spillage
The beach in La Zenia, Orihuela Costa has been temporarily closed until water quality is restored

Swimming is currently prohibited at the appropriately named Cala Cerrada (Closed Cove) in La Zenia, Orihuela Costa, following the detection of contamination in the sea. The closure was announced by Orihuela Town Council’s Beaches Department after recent water quality tests revealed a spill of residual origin.
The results, dated Tuesday July 1, 2025 and issued by the Directorate General for Water, form part of the regional Bathing Water Quality Control Programme.
As a precaution, access to the water has been suspended until further analysis confirms the contamination has been fully cleared.
Weekly testing is carried out by the Conselleria de Medio Ambiente y Agua, enabling swift action to prevent any escalation of health risks.
Meanwhile, the local Beaches Department is working closely with technical staff from the Directorate General for Water to resolve the issue and restore safe bathing conditions as soon as possible.
