Supporting mental health in later life: A holistic approach at Caser Residencial
Promoting wellbeing and independence for older adults

Understanding the challenges of ageing
Ageing brings many changes that can affect mental health. Caser Residencial considers these factors to provide the best possible care:
- Loss of independence and mobility: Reduced mobility can impact confidence. Caser’s personalised care plans help residents maintain their autonomy.
- Chronic pain and frailty: Conditions like arthritis can lead to anxiety and depression. Their physiotherapy services help manage pain and improve movement.
- Isolation and loneliness: Staying socially active is essential, so Caser fosters a strong sense of community through group activities and shared spaces.
- Emotional impact of life changes: Retirement, bereavement and financial concerns can be overwhelming, but psychological support services help residents adjust.
- Physical health conditions: Ongoing illnesses affect both mood and mental health, which is why their multidisciplinary team provides holistic care.
- Genetic and biological factors: Age-related brain changes can contribute to mental health issues. Caser specialists provide expert neurocognitive care.
Common mental health concerns in later life
Older adults may experience various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and neurocognitive disorders. Persistent sadness, loss of interest and low energy can affect quality of life, while excessive worry can make daily life difficult for older people.
Not only that, but insomnia and other sleep issues impact physical and mental health, while conditions like dementia and Alzheimer’s affect memory and independence for the elderly. Caser Residencial provides therapeutic support and engaging activities, with structured routines and psychological support to create a sense of security. Their care plans include strategies to improve sleep quality, while they have specialised units to provide tailored care for those with dementia and other neurocognitive disorders.
How Caser Residencial supports mental wellbeing

Caser takes a holistic approach to mental health, ensuring residents feel supported in every aspect of life. Other initiatives include:
- Providing psychological support: Their mental health professionals offer personalised emotional care
- Raising awareness: They reduce stigma by educating residents and families on recognising symptoms and seeking support
- Supporting caregivers: Families play a vital role, and Caser provides guidance to help them navigate their loved one’s care
