British man found dead after three-day search on Málaga beach
Policía Nacional say the 25-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious
A British man has been found dead on a beach in Málaga after a three-day search involving police, coastguards and Red Cross officials. The 25-year-old had been reported missing after he was last seen entering the sea at Misericordia Beach late last Wednesday night and did not come back out.His body was found early on Saturday morning on nearby Huelin Beach, lying on the sand and out of the water. At first it was not clear whether the man found there was the same person who had gone missing, but police sources have now confirmed that it was the British national.
The alarm was raised at around 10.30pm last Wednesday after he failed to exit the water. From that point, emergency teams began an intensive search along the coast, working across air, land and sea in the hope of finding him.
On Saturday morning, the discovery of the body prompted a major emergency response in the area. A source from Andalucía’s emergency coordination centre said the alert came in minutes before 8.20am, after authorities were told there was a deceased man next to a picnic area on Huelin Beach.
The source said: “The discovery of the lifeless body of a person on Huelin beach, in the city of Málaga, triggered a large emergency response early on Saturday morning. The alert was received minutes before 8.20am, when authorities were notified of the presence of a deceased man next to a picnic area in the zone. Following the call, the Andalucía 112 emergencies system immediately mobilized medical services, Policía Local, Red Cross, Guardia Civil, and Policía Nacional, whose personnel confirmed the death at the scene.”
A spokesman for Spain’s Policía Nacional confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. He said: “The person found dead is the same one who went missing three days earlier. There is nothing pointing to any evidence of criminality.”
It is not yet clear whether the man lived locally or was on holiday in the area. His cause of death has not been confirmed, and the results of the autopsy will be sent to the investigating magistrate at a local court. Huelin Beach lies west of Málaga city centre and is close to leisure areas popular with families and people taking part in sport.
