Vera AVE station in Almería ready to roll as trackwork advances
Design complete with tender expected before summer to sync with Pulpí line
Good news for the Levante almeriense region: the Vera AVE station project plans in Almería are finished and construction could start soon. Basque firm Saitec, who won the contract, has completed all the plans worth €789,524. Now Adif wants to time the build with fast progress on the Pulpí-Vera track section, so the station doesn't sit empty and deteriorate like some abandoned bridges elsewhere on the line. The station will go up at Media Legua near the Garciden industrial building, off the Garrucha road. A vital underpass there is already done. The design covers 1,000 square metres with a passenger building that includes a main vestibule, high-speed boarding area, ticket office and info point, toilets, changing rooms, luggage storage and a commercial space. There will also be parking for at least 100 cars, car rental and platforms.
Saitec topped the scoring from nine bidders when Adif opened the technical and economic bids in January 2023, with final award in March. They had 18 months for the project, now overdue, plus 12 months later for construction through a separate tender. Tight deadlines tie into EU commitments for the Mediterranean Corridor to avoid repaying NextGen EU funds.
Work on the Pulpí-Vera stretch is well advanced. Next comes laying sleepers, installing rails, overhead lines and electrification. Adif sources say they prefer matching the station build to this pace. "The execution has not started to match the construction rhythm of the terminal with the platform works of the Pulpí-Vera section, already very advanced," they explained.
For locals and the Almanzora area, this high-speed link has been eagerly awaited. It promises easier connections along the coast without the station standing idle. Saitec, a multinational strong in rail, roads and energy, brings solid experience to deliver on time.
Once built, expect a modern hub that serves travellers heading through Almería and beyond. With trackwork ramping up, Vera's spot on the Mediterranean Corridor looks set to open without long delays.
