Shots fired in Mijas: One injured and 75 kilos of hashish seized
Two arrested after armed chase as Guardia Civil takes over investigation
A serious shooting incident at the weekend, in Mijas, ended with one person in hospital, two people under arrest and nearly 75 kilos of hashish seized by the Policía Local. The clash, which unfolded on Saturday January 10 in the afternoon, also left up to four vehicles damaged before officers were able to bring the situation under control. The operation began when five Policía Local patrols were sent to the scene after reports of an overturned vehicle, a sign that something more serious might have happened. Once there, officers confirmed what the Ayuntamiento later described as a “violent episode”, with alleged threats involving a firearm, an attempted escape and a police chase that culminated in shots being fired. One person suffered a gunshot wound, received medical attention at the scene and was then transferred to hospital.
During the subsequent inspection of the area connected to the escape route, the Policía Local recovered a handgun and what they described as “a significant amount of narcotic substance, around 75 kilos of hashish.” Several witnesses were also identified and interviewed, with their statements considered “key to clarifying the facts.” The two detainees are being investigated as alleged perpetrators of robbery with violence, attempted homicide and a crime against public health.
The Guardia Civil has now taken charge of the proceedings, including the vehicles involved and the seized weapon, and is continuing with the investigation. The councillor for Citizen Security at the Mijas Ayuntamiento, Juan Carlos Cuevas, underlined the seriousness of what happened, stating that “we are facing an extremely serious incident that demanded an immediate and forceful response from the Local Police.”
He added that “the rapid and coordinated action of the agents made it possible to control a very dangerous situation, secure the area and avoid even more serious consequences,” and said the intervention “highlights the importance of having a well-prepared Local Police force, with a permanent presence on the streets and fully coordinated with other security forces.”
