Seville sets the stage for a bright opening to the April Fair
A major light show and a performance by Raya Real will kick off the celebration before the fairground lights are switched on
Seville is getting ready for one of the most eye-catching moments of the April Fair, with the city now set to unveil the details of this year’s opening light show. The event will begin at 10.00pm beneath the temporary monument at the Antonio Bienvenida entrance, before the official lighting ceremony takes place at midnight. This year’s pre-opening show will feature Raya Real, who will provide the music for the build-up to the start of the fair. The group is marking four decades on stage and will also perform its new single for the season.
Delegate for Major Festivals Manuel Alés said it is “an honour to have this legendary group performing on Monday, offering a comprehensive retrospective of their professional career.” He added that the city hopes all Sevillians will enjoy the show and that it will help launch the week “in grand style.”
Once the countdown reaches midnight, more than 28,000 LED lights will be switched on across the fairground entrance. The display will be spread along 30,537 metres of tubing and supported by more than 6,000 pieces of woodwork and 3,777 square metres of paneling. The illuminated façade will measure 40 metres wide, 40 metres high and 5.70 metres deep.
The lighting ceremony remains one of the most anticipated moments of the fair, setting the tone for the days ahead. It is the moment when the celebration truly comes to life, and this year’s display has been designed to make a big first impression.
Raya Real may be the musical name attached to the evening, but for most visitors the real focus will be on the spectacle itself, from the opening show at 10.00pm to the burst of light at midnight. For Seville, it is a familiar ritual, but one that still carries plenty of excitement every year.
