Playa El Mojón, Pilar de la Horadada
Walk in only 300 metres from a residential area in Valencia to a nature reserve in Murcia!
The southernmost beach of the Comunitad Valenciana borders on the Region of Murcia, the name of the beach coming from the boundary marker between the two Autonomous Communities.
It is a natural beach although footbaths and drinking water are available, and remains popular with anglers as it is seldom overcrowded.
Located just to the north of the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar – in fact the southern end of the beach belongs to the municipality of San Pedro - bathers are close to nature here, making it a very enjoyable experience for beach-goers.
Parking is easy on the residential streets which back on to the beach, although there are no designated car parks as such.
There is a promenade along the 270-metre beach before the urbanization ends and the nature park of the salt flats begins to the south and the sea is shallow. Access is easy all along the populated end of the beach as the road is barely above sea level, and at the northern end those of limited mobility can make their way directly to the sand from the road itself.
At the southern end, which is in the Region of Murcia, there are half a dozen wooden paths running across the dunes onto the beach.
There are footwashes and toilets, and towards the southern end of the beach is a small square belonging to the residential area where a bar is open in the summer. The lifeguard point is manned at Easter and from mid-June to mid-September, and at weekends until 15th October.
