Murcia weather warnings updated for this week: Orange alert for strong winds
Storm Joseph arrives in Murcia with a gusty, blustery bang!

We all knew it was going to be a stormy, wet and windy week with the arrival of Storm Joseph in Spain, and now the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated and extended its weather alerts to cover more days and more parts of the Region of Murcia.
This Tuesday January 27, the yellow warnings have been updated to orange along the entire Costa Cálida coastline up until 8pm due to the southeasterly winds which could reach up to 50-70kmh (gale force 7 and 8) and create waves as high as 3-5 metres.
Inland parts of Murcia are also on yellow alert for strong winds on Tuesday.
Murcia weather warnings, Tuesday January 27On Wednesday, the orange and yellow weather alerts are extended to cover the entire Region of Murcia, orange on the coast and in the southwest around Lorca for gusts up to 90kmh (gale force 8 and 9) and waves as high as 4-6 metres until around 6pm; and yellow alerts in other inland areas for gusts up to 70kmh from 10am to midnight.
All the surrounding provinces of Albacete, Alicante and Almería are also on weather alert for strong winds, while rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for Wednesday afternoon.
Murcia weather warnings, Wednesday January 28For now, Thursday’s weather alerts for wind have been slightly downgraded as they are only at yellow level in the far northern corners of Murcia from midnight to 6pm and along the coast from 10am to 8pm, while other areas are not currently expected to be under any alert.
Murcia weather warnings, Thursday January 29Aemet only issues these weather warnings up to a maximum of three days in advance, and they are constantly updating and changing them based on the latest meteorological data, so there may yet be changes to these Murcia weather alerts.
In episodes of very strong winds, official advice from emergency services is to stay away from the edges of old buildings where bits could crumble and fall off; do not go in or near the sea or areas where there could be large swells of water suddenly rushing up; and do not drive unless it is absolutely necessary.
