Los Alcázares is already on the hunt for lifeguards for 2025
The contract amounts to almost 700,000 euros for the company that will take charge of its beaches
Los Alcázares is known for its wonderful beaches and beautiful waters. The municipality is the only one whose coast belongs in its entirety to the Mar Menor.
With the beach and coastline being of such importance to the area, it is no wonder that finding the right team to care for it is so essential for the town council.
That is why they have already drafted the contract for the surveillance and rescue services on the beaches for next summer. The contract is set to be in place from June 1, 2025 and will run through until September 30.
The contract is also significant because of the value attached to it; the contract amounts to around 700,000 euros for the team which will man the beaches.
“The purpose of the contract is to regulate the provision of the Surveillance and Rescue service on the Beaches of Los Alcázares,” explains the document.
It continues by stating “Being a coastal municipality with urban beaches and that during the holiday periods and particularly in summer the number of visitors and users of which increases significantly, it is necessary to have a surveillance and rescue service.”
The main job of the team which will oversee the beach is to monitor the sea and assist the people on the beach who have questions or need help. The document drafted states that “During surveillance periods, care must be taken not to lose attention with mobile devices or others, so the use of digital media external to the service itself is prohibited.”
Another function of the team is to search for missing persons and to prevent accidents happening in the sea due to dangerous behaviour, or to close beaches due to unsafe water conditions by raising flags or keeping bathers within a certain area that it is safe for them to swim in.
In addition, the document states that the beach workers “must also communicate to the Coordinating Centre in real time, the opening and closing of the posts, available resources, sea state and any incident in general.”
Furthermore, the company will not be able to impose its logo, since it will be at the service of the Los Alcázares Town Council.
As the document states, “The successful tenderer will assume the corporate image that the Los Alcázares City Council's beach surveillance and rescue service already has, consisting broadly of red swimsuits and yellow T-shirts, with the rest of the clothing matching.”
The successful tenderer will also carry out a daily review of all facilities and equipment in order to discover conditions and situations that may cause deficiencies in the service, breakdowns or defects in the equipment used, accidents to persons or any other matter that may alter the normal operation of the Service.
