Cuevas del Almanzora is getting a new caravan and motorhome park
The local council has awarded the contract for the creation of a service area for motorhomes and campers
In an effort to boost tourism and provide a way in which to attract visitors to the historic town centre, the town council of Cuevas del Alamanzora in the province of Almería is creating a new caravan park.
The council has taken into account that one of the possible sources of rural tourism is motorhome users and tourists. More tourist means more money and business for the local community, which is why the town council is seeking to entice more motorhomes to the area with this new project.
Motorhome tourism is on the rise and provides tourism year round for people looking not merely to sit on Spanish beaches. The council therefore is seeking to capitalise of this trend to boast the economy of the town and bring business to restaurants and shops in the area.
As stated in the project report, the data supports this type of service, since “in recent years, sales of motorhomes in Spain have experienced spectacular growth, with the current fleet around 30,000 units, reaching 1,800,000 throughout Europe.”
The location of the site for the caravan and motorhome park is a section of Avenida Andalucía de Cuevas, close to the Vivero Park, which will be urbanised and provided with the necessary services to accommodate it.
There is plenty of work to be carried out at the site before the creation of the park. They need to tear up the the existing pavements to adapt the space, as well provide sewage and supply networks in the area. Furthermore, the necessary paving needs to be carried out, as well as the creation of a space for loading and unloading the caravan tanks.
The total amount of money needed for the project will be around 40,000 euros, which will be financed through the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destinations (PST), which received a total of 2.5 million euros in grants for 19 projects, fully financed by the European Union Next Generation Funds.
