Christmas light switch-on in Malaga announced already
The people of the city will have to wait for another month for the Christmas lights to come to life
There are still more than two months left until Christmas day. However, with the upcoming celebrations so highly anticipated, councils are already beginning to put the final touches on the lighting arrangements across different cities and towns in Spain.
This year in Málaga, the city is taking a new approach. The Andalusian city this year will recreate the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival. This novel idea comes from an agreement signed between Ximénez Group, responsible for the assembly of the Christmas lights, and the Chinese Lantern Group.
Dates when the lights can be seen
The lights, inspired by the festival that marks the end of the Chinese New Year, will come to life on November 29. The display will take place in the city's Parque del Oeste until February 12, 2025.
This event also includes a series of activities typical of the Asian country, such as a parade with traditional costumes, a mural of wishes, the creation of lanterns, flags, music and traditional dance
Now, regarding the normal Christmas lights of the city, they are expected to light up on November 30, with their official inauguration on the central street Larios, although this has not yet been confirmed.
The event will also be held in the Plaza de la Constitución and in the surrounding streets. The opening will have three different shows that can be enjoyed at the following times: 18:30, 20:00 and 21:00.
Too early in Torrevieja?
Over in the Alicante municipality of Torrevieja, despite not having celebrated Halloween yet, the installation of Christmas lights are well on their way. Garlands of lights are already being strung along the streets of the city in anticipation for Christmas.
Though there is not an actual date, as of yet, for the turning on of the lights, you can be assured that it won't be long now before the coastal town is in full Christmas spirit.
