Cala Piteras, the southernmost beach of Torrevieja
A wide range of services on this Torrevieja blue flag beach
Cala Piteras is the southernmost beach in Torrevieja, and is reached by turning off the N-332 just north of the boundary with the municipality of Orihuela on Avenida las Olas. At the moment it can be classified as a semi-urban beach, but the construction sector on this part of the Costa Blanca appears to be alive and well, and this description may soon have to be revised!
Parking is easy, with wide roads and, as yet, few of the spaces taken up by residents. Special parking spaces are reserved for the disabled, and there are also bicycle racks.
This is a small beach, officially just 123 metres long and 15 metres wide, and although it is sandy there is typical Mediterranean vegetation on the dunes which flank it on the southern side. Popular with snorkelers, just off the shore there is one of the largest Posidonia meadows in the south of Alicante.
To the north there is a bar-restaurant, and another small beach-type establishment is located on the seafront directly behind the beach itself, next to the Red Cross station and the public toilets. Those who fancy a stroll can easily walk south, following the dunes, to the residential area and beach of Punta Prima, which are in the municipality of Orihuela.
Access from the promenade is down a wooden ramp which is suitable for those of limited mobility and it is also has rubbish bins and foot showers.
The beach is cleaned daily throughout the year, but the lifeguard station is manned only in high season (mid-June to mid-September). There is no pedal-boat or sunbed hire, and apart from the bar and restaurant there are no shops in the immediate vicinity: visitors who are planning to spend the whole day here should bring either a picnic lunch or a little cash to spend on refreshments at midday!
Blue Flag status
This beach normally gains a blue flag status for cleanliness and quality of services, and is also recognized by Qualitur and Ecoplayas
