British police offer 10k reward for information about father and son missing on the Costa del Sol
Daniel and Liam Poole disappeared without a trace while visiting Malaga in 2019, and their case has been upgraded to a murder probe
Sussex police are offering a £10,000 reward for any information linked to Daniel and Liam Poole, a British father and son who have been missing on the Costa del Sol since 2019. In 2022, their case was upgraded to a murder investigation and the authorities in both Spain and the UK are hoping that the cash reward will result in some new leads in this cold case.
This missing person’s case turned murder probe has been complicated and fraught with contradictions from the start. When the father and son, from Burgess Hill, West Sussex, then aged 46 and 22, first disappeared, the media at home and abroad reported that they were house hunting in Estepona, Malaga.
However, a few days after they vanished, Liam's grandmother Kathy Catney said she feared they had been killed in a drug deal gone bad.
Today, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Dunn says he is working on the assumption that “they travelled to Spain to see friends for a holiday” and is keen to “understand the details behind the disappearance and what I believe [was] the murder of Danny and Liam”.
The men reportedly hired a grey Peugeot 308 when they arrived in Spain on 31 March 2019. Just one day after checking into the exclusive Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort, they vanished.
The car was later found abandoned and a room search revealed that Danny and Liam’s luggage and passports were all still at the hotel.
“I do think Liam's died, I think he's been killed. I hope he's not at the bottom of the sea,” the distraught grandmother said recently.
DCI Dunn told media in the UK that the family are still “desperate for answers”.
“They've endured this nightmare for the past five years. And they are absolutely desperate for... anybody that can assist with understanding the circumstances of their loved ones disappearance,” he added.
