Adrenaline rush: top bungee jumping spots in Alicante for the most daring
Thrill-seekers can have a field day in Alicante province, home to incredible extreme sport locations
Love adrenaline rushes and thrill-seeking? Look no further than Alicante province, an adventure tourism playground when it comes to extreme sport opportunities, and a must-visit province for lovers of bungee jumping.
Known as 'puenting' (bridging) in Spain, the sport is becoming more and more popular, and whilst holidaymakers flock to Alicante province for its stunning coastline, thousands of tourists visit the region each year for its incredible mountain ranges, landscapes and outdoor activities.
One of these, and arguably the most daring, is bungee jumping, made possible thanks to the province's different railway structures that offer the perfect platform for hurling oneself into the unknown in search of an adrenaline buzz.
There are several companies offering this type risky but "safe and controlled" activity from different heights, with prices ranging from 30 to 60 euros.
Whether you love to push yourself to the limit or want to overcome a fear of heights, bungee jumping is a sure-fire way to release adrenaline and generate endorphins. Here are a few of the best bungee jumping spots in Alicante province.
Calpe - Mascarat Bridges (Puentes del Mascarat)
Between Altea and Calpe, you will find the Mascarat Tunnel, a rocky and mountainous area with breathtaking views. This is one of the most popular spots for bungee jumping in the whole of Spain, not because it is the highest bridge at 60 metres, but because it is the only bridge-to-bridge bungee jump in the country.
There are a number of companies that organise jumps in this steep passage of rocks at a dizzying height that has seen tens of thousands of jumps in recent years.
Villena - Metal bridge (Puente metálico)
If you are just starting out in bungee jumping or want to try the experience without taking too many 'risks', the metallic bridges of the old line from Villena to Alcoy and Yecla could be just the place. Lower, at 30 metres, the bridge offers a free fall of approximately 15 metres, and organised jumps last between 15 and 20 minutes, pretty much standard, but because the bridge is lower, the flight is considered to be "easier" for the non-experienced.
Alcoy - Bridge of the Seven Moons (Puente de las Siete Lunas)
Alcoy is known as the 'city of bridges' due to the large number of viaducts that were built. The 260-metre-long Bridge of the Seven Moons over the Polop river was built as a crossing for the Alicante-Alcoy train in the 20th century, although it was never used.
Now the Seven Moons viaduct is one of the star stops on the Alcoy Greenway, and also serves as a perfect structure for bungee jumping at 50-metres high, with spectacular views - for those brave enough to keep their eyes open!
