60 miles of major roads repainted across the Region of Murcia
Key routes in Alhama, Totana, Mazarrón, Fuente Álamo, Murcia and the Campo de Cartagena, including airport access roads, have been upgraded to improve safety and visibility

Nearly 60 miles (100 kilometres) of high-capacity roads across the Region of Murcia have been repainted in a €343,000 investment aimed at strengthening road safety and improving visibility for drivers.
The Regional Government announced the completion of works to renew road markings on six key routes in Alhama de Murcia, Totana, Mazarrón, Fuente Álamo, Murcia and Campo de Cartagena. In total, 94.28 kilometres of roadway have been treated as part of the maintenance programme.
According to the regional authorities, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to reinforce safety across the regional road network, particularly on routes carrying heavy volumes of traffic.
Among the roads improved are two of the main access routes to Region of Murcia International Airport from the Autovía A-30.
Repainting work has been carried out on the RM-2, which connects Alhama de Murcia with Campo de Cartagena, and on the RM-3 between Totana and Mazarrón. Work has also been completed on the RM-23, which links the RM-2 and RM-3.
In addition, the RM-16 and RM-17, which provide access to the airport from the A-30, have been repainted.
The programme also included the RM-602 between Alhama de Murcia and La Aljorra, passing through Fuente Álamo.
The Director General of Roads, Francisco Carrillo, said that “preventive maintenance is a key tool for ensuring the safety and functionality of the regional road network” and pointed out that “actions such as repainting road markings directly improve visibility, driver orientation and, consequently, traffic safety”.
He explained that high-performance white acrylic paint based on modified acrylic resins has been used for the markings. This material offers strong resistance to weather conditions, fuels and oils, and better withstands abrasion caused by passing vehicles.
Carrillo also highlighted that the paint is quick-drying, usually in less than 30 minutes, allowing roads to reopen to traffic swiftly after application. In addition, it incorporates glass microspheres which significantly improve the night-time visibility of the markings.
As part of its broader road safety strategy, the Regional Ministry of Development and Infrastructure is placing particular emphasis on high-capacity and first-level roads, as these routes carry the greatest traffic volumes and serve the highest number of users across the Region of Murcia.
