There was a big scare in the early hours of this morning as a train carrying 700 tons of butane caught on fire in Murcia. The train began to burn as it was on the tracks and moving.
With such a highly flammable cargo on board, the alarm was quickly sounded around midnight as the race to put out the fire was urgent. The train then immediately came to a stop near Murcia city and the fire department raced to the scene.
The problem with butane is its highly flammable properties, which could have caused an explosion, the results of which can only be imagined. Luckily, the fire department arrived in time and located the hottest areas where the train was burning and then proceeded to use their hoses to prevent temperatures rising and flames spreading.
Furthermore, thanks to the work of the Murcia fire department, the cargo was not compromised as the firefighters got the flames under control and stopped the fire.
Ultimately, the fire only affected two bogies and the wheels of one of the wagons. There were no injuries or damage to any of the nearby infrastructure.
