This town in Malaga has five times more motorhome users than inhabitants
One small town in the Genal Valley specialises in motorhome tourism
Benarrabá is a municipality of Málaga located in the west of the province in the Genal Valley. The town is one of a number which make up the Serranía de Ronda region.
The town has a predominantly mountainous territory and is close to the Guadiaro and Genal rivers. It has just over 550 inhabitants, but what is most remarkable about it is that it hosts a great number of motorhome users all year round.
Benarrabá receives more than 3,000 campers and caravanners every year, who come for the town’s surroundings and lovely nature, of course, but also for its excellent services for motorhomes such as plentiful parking and the chance connecting their vehicles to the electricity grid.
As sources from the Town Council say, “with greater or lesser occupancy, motorhomes arrive every day” to this area.
During the weekends “there tend to be many national tourists and on weekdays international tourists prevail, especially French and Dutch,” they point out.
It is, of course, an influx of people that “represents an economic benefit for Benarrabá and is noticeable in the town’s establishments,” emphasises the Benarrabá council.
A motorhome area was created 15 years ago, in 2009, and since then, “it has enjoyed great acceptance by visitors, who in many cases share interesting information regarding the best places to travel in this type of vehicle.”
And after the Covid-19 pandemic, “motorhome tourism has experienced a notable boom that has also been reflected in an increase in visits by these travellers to Benarrabá.”
According to the Town Hall, travellers who discover Benarrabá and the Genal Valley “are amazed by the exquisite gastronomy of the area, the popular festivals and traditions of its towns, the mycological wealth, the hospitality of its inhabitants or the deep cultural heritage of its municipalities.”
Furthermore, there is a wide network of trails in the area that connect different towns and points of interest. In addition, there are places where those who wish to live experiences that release adrenaline can do different activities such as climbing, via ferratas and canyoning.
