Storm Adam leaves roads closed across Andalucía
Hundreds of emergencies have been reported after torrential rain, with Córdoba and Seville still affected by road closures
Storm Adam has left roads closed and caused widespread flooding across Andalucía, with emergency services responding to hundreds of incidents since the heavy rain began over the weekend.Three roads remained closed on Monday morning, October 19, according to traffic information updated at 9.30am. Two are in Córdoba province and one is in Seville province, with all three shut in both directions.
In Córdoba, the affected routes are the CO-4103 between Bujalance and Villa del Río, and the CO-4207 between Montilla and Montalbán. The bridge at La Zarza, between kilometres 5 and 6, is also closed. In Seville province, the SE-6300 near Lebrija remains closed along its six-kilometre stretch.
Drivers are being advised to check conditions before travelling and respect all road restrictions.
Hundreds of emergencies across the region
The disruption follows a weekend of intense rainfall that brought flooding, landslides, fallen trees and people trapped by rising water.
By Sunday morning, the Andalusian Emergency Agency had recorded 357 weather-related incidents across the region, including 143 in Almería, 97 in Málaga and 60 in Seville. Córdoba reported 26, Granada 20, Cádiz seven, Jaén three and Huelva one.
Flooding accounted for 236 of the incidents, while emergency teams carried out 37 rescues. Problems with basic services, traffic disruptions and landslides were also reported. No injuries had been reported in the figures provided.
Málaga was particularly badly affected during the early hours of Sunday, with 73 incidents recorded there alone. More than 50 calls were received from 12.12am about flooding and fallen trees in the El Palo area of Málaga city.
Ten people were also reported trapped in the tunnel at Peñón del Cuervo beach late on Saturday night, where water had risen above ankle height. Firefighters attended and the situation was resolved without serious consequences.
The flooding has also prompted emergency plans in several municipalities, with authorities continuing to monitor conditions and warn residents about the risk of flash floods. Seventeen local civil protection emergency plans were reported active on Sunday across Almería, Málaga and Granada.
Almería and Málaga among the worst-hit areas
Almería was initially at the centre of the storm, recording 121 incidents on Saturday alone, most involving flooding. Homes and roads were inundated, vehicles were swept away and some people became isolated by rising water.
The A-7 motorway was temporarily closed near El Ejido because of flooding, although traffic had been restored by early Sunday.
Málaga also saw power supply problems, flooded buildings and roads, and landslides. The Axarquía area was under a red rain alert for three hours overnight, until 3am on Sunday.
Antonio Sanz, Andalucía’s regional minister for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, urged the public to remain cautious and avoid crossing flooded areas, ravines or riverbeds, whether on foot or by vehicle.Although some restrictions have been lifted, Monday’s remaining road closures show that the effects of the weekend’s rainfall are continuing.
