Spain weather forecast May 8-11: Stormy weekend ahead
Storms will form daily at least until the weekend in much of Spain

Weather outlook on Saturday afternoon, May 10
Storms are set to continue across much of Spain through the end of the week, with new weather alerts issued as the unseasonable May instability persists.
The week began with severe storms and there’s no sign of a break as we head into the weekend. Cold air at high altitudes, brought in by troughs and low-pressure systems, is maintaining unstable conditions. As a result, showers and thunderstorms are expected daily over wide areas of the country.
These storms could be particularly intense in the north, bringing significant rainfall. Temperatures will also remain far below the usual values for this time of year, and there’s a good chance of frost in parts.
Starting Thursday May 8, instability will increase further, especially across the interior of the country and the Balearic Islands. Rain and storms will become widespread, although showers will be lighter during the morning, mainly affecting the south and central regions.

Weather outlook on Thursday May 8
In the afternoon, rainfall will spread more broadly. Localised downpours and hail are possible in areas such as Galicia, Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Teruel, eastern Andalucía, Murcia and Catalonia. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued yellow warnings in these areas, with an orange alert in the Valencian Community due to the risk of large hail. Daytime temperatures will mostly stay in the low 20s.
The unsettled pattern is expected to persist into the weekend. Another DANA is forecast to move south from a trough over the northwest of the country, triggering further showers and storms on Friday May 9 across much of mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.
The north and the Balearics are likely to see the most intense activity. By the weekend, storms will be especially frequent in the north and east of the country.

Weather outlook on Friday May 9
Meanwhile, the Canary Islands will see the arrival of an Atlantic storm on Friday. Rain will initially affect the western islands, spreading across the archipelago over the weekend, with a chance of thunderstorms.
Saturday May 10 will bring widespread cloud cover and showers across most of the country, except for the southwest where dry conditions are likely. Along the Mediterranean coast, any showers will be weaker and more scattered. Temperatures will rise slightly in the east and the Balearic Islands but remain steady elsewhere.
By Sunday May 11, the storm system is expected to weaken, though abundant cloud cover will persist. Rain and showers will continue in the northern half of the country, with some extending into the southeastern mountain ranges.

Weather outlook on Sunday May 11
The heaviest, most intense thunderstorms are expected in the Pyrenees, Iberian system and Cantabrian Mountains. Temperatures will continue a gradual rise.
