Spain weather forecast March 16-19: Windy start before temperatures climb towards 20°C
Temperatures could hit 20°C across much of Spain by Tuesday as high pressure keeps things largely settled

Average temperatures expected on Thursday March 19
After a turbulent weekend that saw the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issue red alerts for hurricane-force gusts of over 140km/h and waves of more than seven metres around Menorca, the worst of the weather has now passed. The week ahead looks considerably more settled, although wind will remain a feature in some areas at the start.
Monday March 16

The red alerts have been stood down but strong northerly gusts will continue to affect Empordà, Mallorca, Menorca and the lower Ebro Valley throughout the day, with easterly winds picking up in Cádiz towards the evening.
Elsewhere across Spain and the Balearic Islands, high pressure will keep conditions largely stable with some low cloud early on that should clear through the morning. The Canary Islands will see mostly clear skies with some light rain on the higher islands.
Tuesday March 17

Much the same pattern continues on Tuesday, with very strong easterly gusts affecting Cádiz and the surrounding mountain areas. The rest of Spain stays under the influence of high pressure with settled conditions and some morning cloud on the Galician and Cantabrian coasts and parts of the Mediterranean.
Isolated showers are possible in the southwest, and a cut-off low approaching the Canary Islands will bring heavier showers and thunderstorms to the mountainous islands.
Temperatures will be rising across Spain, with maximums nudging towards 20°C in many provinces.
Wednesday March 18

A mostly calm and clear day is expected across Spain and the Balearics, although some morning cloud and fog patches are possible along the Ebro Valley and eastern coast. A low-pressure system developing to the west of the country will push some mid and high cloud across the southwestern half of Spain, with a chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms in western Andalucia.
The Canary Islands will see increasing cloud through the day with showers, thunderstorms and possible hail on the larger islands. Temperatures will fall slightly in the south and far east, with light frosts possible in the Pyrenees.
Thursday March 19

Spain stays largely settled on Thursday, although moisture from the Mediterranean will bring cloudy spells to the eastern third of the country, the Ebro Valley and the Strait of Gibraltar, with a chance of light rain or drizzle in places that should clear as the day progresses.
The Atlantic low will continue to push cloud bands across the western third of the country with isolated showers possible. The Canary Islands will bear the brunt again, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible hail expected on the higher islands.
Temperatures will dip in the east and both island groups, with slight rises in the western half of the country.
