Spain weather forecast June 15-18: Storms and rising heat before real summer arrives
Afternoon thunderstorms will bring some relief to large parts of Spain this week but temperatures are set to climb sharply as the weekend approaches

Average temperatures expected across Spain on Thursday June 18
After a very sultry Sunday, the new week kicks off with more of the same for large parts of Spain, especially inland. Storms will be a regular feature over the coming days, more so in the first half of the week, although they won't disappear completely by Thursday. They'll bring a welcome dip in temperatures during the afternoons, but as we edge closer to the official start of summer this weekend, the heat is set to build noticeably.
Monday June 15

Storms are likely across many inland areas, with the chance of hail and lightning in some spots, particularly near mountain ranges.
Highs will sit around 35°C in the Guadalquivir and Guadiana valleys, the Ebro valley and Murcia, while cloud will build throughout the afternoon, especially inland.
Tuesday June 16

Similar conditions to Monday, with storms continuing to develop during the day, mostly in inland provinces. These bring some afternoon relief from the heat thanks to the rain and gusty winds that come with them, but they can turn intense in places, particularly close to mountainous areas.
The Canary Islands will see trade winds keeping cloud trapped on the northern slopes of the hillier islands, with a chance of light rain there.
Wednesday June 17

Storms remain on the cards, but they should be slightly less widespread than earlier in the week. Temperatures will start to creep up again, with inland areas feeling noticeably warmer. Cloud cover will build in the afternoons, particularly across central and southern inland regions, and the Mediterranean coast will start to feel muggier.
Thursday June 18

Storms are still possible in some areas, but the bigger story will be the rising heat. Southern areas could see temperatures pushing towards 40°C, with Córdoba among the cities that might break that mark. Even the Cantabrian coast won't escape, with highs near 35°C expected there too.
It's a good sign of what's to come, with tropical nights (lows staying above 20°C) and even some equatorial nights (lows near 25°C) forecast for many cities heading into the weekend.
