Museums in Murcia City, El Museo de la Ciencia y el Agua
Where to go in Murcia, Museo de la Ciencia y el Agua, Museum of Science and Water
This museum is designed to make children think about their environment and explain basic scientific principles in relation to the earth and natural surroundings.
Its a fascinating museum for children as each point is made clearly using moving models, so there are a myriad of wonderful buttons to press which show the phenomena actually occurring.
Waterspouts forming, steam, heat, magnetism, movement, all manner of interesting phenomena are demonstrated graphically and simply.
It also focuses on the need to manage and conserve water and teaches children through interactive games how to use less water.
In addition theres a planetarium for those over 8 years of age which is a further 60 cents to enter.
Not surprisingly, with the museum focused on education and activity it receives a large number of school groups which makes it the most visited museum in the capital.
The only observation we would venture is that all of the display panels are in Spanish and there are no translations available, so whilst it is enormously entertaining for youngsters or adults who speak Spanish, its not a lot of fun for those who dont, although saying that, a 45 year old man who came along on the visit was having a whale of a time pressing buttons and watching the demonstrations as well.
Its a great place to go for a family visit, particularly on a very hot or wet day as the inside is atmospherically controlled.
There are also regular temporary exhibitions.
Would we recommend it?
If you speak Spanish, yes.
If you dont , no.
