More legroom on flights to Spain as budget airline unveils seat upgrade
The low-cost carrier, popular on routes to Alicante, Murcia and Malaga, is introducing a new pre-reclined seat design

For years, flying to and from Spain with a low-cost airline has often meant squeezing into a seat and counting down the minutes until landing. But one major budget carrier is hoping to make journeys a little more comfortable for passengers in the future.
The airline has announced plans to install a new type of "pre-reclined" seat on a large number of its aircraft, giving travellers extra legroom without reducing the number of seats on board.
The upgraded seats are expected to provide around five centimetres of additional space for passengers, helping to make flights more comfortable, particularly on longer routes.
The new design has been developed by aircraft seating specialist Mirus Aircraft Seating, which says the seats can offer more room without changing the layout of the cabin.
Another advantage is that the seats are significantly lighter than those currently in use. According to the manufacturer, replacing existing seats could reduce an aircraft's weight by as much as 500kg, helping airlines cut fuel consumption and operating costs.
The announcement comes at a time when airlines are facing rising fuel bills following ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed up oil prices and increased costs across the aviation industry.
The carrier behind the move is easyJet, one of Europe's largest low-cost airlines and a hugely popular choice for travellers flying to and from Spain.
However, passengers won't see the new seats immediately. EasyJet says they will be installed on new Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft joining the fleet from 2028 onwards.
The airline has already warned that air fares are likely to rise again this summer as fuel costs continue to climb. While the new seats won't make flights cheaper, they could make them a little more comfortable.
For travellers used to paying extra for additional legroom, it's a small change that could make a noticeable difference when boarding future easyJet flights.
