Admire the splendour of old-fashioned horsedrawn carriages as they parade through the city and compete at the Cuesta del Batel

Traffic will be disrupted in Cartagena on Sunday 8^th March as the city turns back time to welcome the 10^th national horse-drawn carriage competition, bringing back a mode of transport which was a common sight in the prosperous era of the nearby mining industry over a hundred years ago.

Twenty or so carriages are taking part and they will set out from the Cartagonova football stadium at 10.15 along Alameda de San Antón and Calle Real to the Arsenal, arriving at the port at around 11.00. Here points will be awarded by the judges and then the group heads off to the Cuesta del Batel, where the second part of the competition takes place.

This event is associated with the figure of Isaac Peral, who invented the first submarine propelled by electricity: the competition is supported by the Naval Museum and the participants are invited to visit the Peral Room on Saturday 7^th March.
