Man in Lorca caught keeping four Iberian wolves as pets
The wild animals were kept captive in a fenced plot next to his home
The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with vets from the City Council of Lorca, have just carried out ‘Operation Lupus’ to track down people whoo illegally possess protected species kept in captivity.
The investigation has come to a head with the investigation of a resident of Lorca who had four wolves in his back garden as pets. The man is being investigated as an alleged perpetrator of a crime against flora and fauna, for the illegal possession of protected wildlife specimens.
Neighbours had contacted the police about the man and his keeping of wolves in his back garden on a plot of land. Then, following information given by the neighbours, the first steps of the operation allowed the location of the protected species to be determined.
The Guardia Civil verified on site that in a fenced lot next to the house there were four canines with the appearance of wolves, who were eating raw meat. The Veterinary Service of the Lorca City Council were then contacted to determine whether they were in fact wolves.
Once the fact that man was keeping wolves was verified, the Guardias then moved in and charged the man with a crime against flora and fauna, for the illegal possession in captivity of wild specimens of protected fauna.
