Málaga's mayor stands firm on e-scooter ban
The city leader says scooters have failed to meet safety and coexistence standards

This latest announcement follows the city council’s decision last month to revoke the licences of scooter rental companies due to persistent issues with improper parking and unsafe riding practices.
E-scooter operators have pushed back against the decision, calling on the council to rethink its stance. “We urge the Malaga City Council to reconsider this decision and engage in open dialogue to address any concerns,” they stated.
The companies insist they are “committed” to enhancing their services and collaborating with authorities to ensure the vehicles are “integrated” into the city’s transport system in a responsible way.
But the city council's decision underscores the importance of adhering to municipal regulations to ensure the safety and convenience of all residents and visitors. As the situation develops, further discussions between the city authorities and service providers may shape the future of alternative urban mobility solutions in Malaga.
E-scooters have been available in Malaga since 2018, but concerns over safety, pedestrian disruption, and lack of enforcement of regulations have led to growing frustration. As the ban moves forward, it remains to be seen whether the city and rental firms will reach a compromise or if Malaga’s streets will soon be free of shared e-scooters altogether.
