Granada unveils first bicycle travel guide for the Camino de Santiago
The guide offers an alternative pilgrimage for the growing number of cyclists travelling to Andalucía
The Provincial Tourist Board of Granada has presented its first travel guide for the Camino de Santiago (Saint James’s Way), aimed specifically at cyclists wishing to tackle the famous Spanish pilgrimage.
Titled ‘Spain from coast to coast: The Mozarables’ Way of Saint James,’ the guide written by Miguel Ángel Sánchez Rubi proposes a trip by bike from Almeria all the way up to Finisterre in northern Spain’s Galicia, crossing the country diagonally along 1,414 in a journey divided into 21 challenging stages.
The guide, which includes a description of the routes on foot, aims to be an alternative pilgrimage for the growing number of fans who demand more bicycle touring routes, and the local authorities hope the 370-page full-colour book will promote knowledge and attract more tourists to the Camino Mozárabe, one of the most unknown Jacobean routes.

The description of each of the stages includes a detailed map with the slopes, distances, difficulties and detours. It also suggests accommodation options, restaurants and sites of interest, and offers a detailed history of each location and its connection with the apostle Santiago.
The average daily distance is about 65 kilometres and the route runs along Jacobean paths, greenways and ten provinces until reaching Santiago de Compostela.
“Almost 96% respect the Jacobean paths marked for walking, but there are sections that are not in any other guide because I have made adaptations when the paths were not cycleable, because they were very hard or dangerous, looking for an alternative by road,” the author has explained.
