Cádiz battens down for stormy weather
Parks and sports grounds shut, shelter open round the clock
With a yellow alert out for wind and rain in Cádiz, the Ayuntamiento has decided to close all public parks and outdoor sports facilities today. Expect locally heavy and persistent rain along with strong westerly winds gusting up to 80 km/h, and a combined sea from the west or southeast reaching 4 to 5 metres. The ramp at Pelícano moat will stay open for access to the train station, but the park around it remains off limits.Officials are urging everyone to take extreme precautions and avoid unnecessary travel as the bad weather rolls in. "Exercise extreme caution," the Ayuntamiento advises, with conditions set to worsen over the coming hours.
To help those most vulnerable, the Social Affairs department is keeping the Fermín Salvochea centre open 24 hours a day. It will serve as a shelter for homeless people and make things easier for emergency services like Local Police, firefighters and ambulances, who can bring anyone in need straight there.
The Ayuntamiento has given special thanks to the street team, social groups and volunteers who help out every day. They provide direct care for those sleeping rough and spread the word about where to find safety.
