British man seriously injured in San Javier shooting
The hooded gunman opened fire in an apparent settling of scores in Santiago de la Ribera
A 27-year-old British man was seriously wounded on Monday evening, November 18, after being shot twice in Santiago de la Ribera, San Javier. The attack, which authorities suspect may be linked to a settling of scores, occurred as the victim was entering his home on Calle Alférez Moreno with his wife.
The gunman, described only as “hooded”, approached the couple from behind and fired multiple shots, striking the victim in the knee and between the neck and shoulder. The assailant then fled the scene at high speed in a car. The victim, bleeding profusely but conscious, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to Los Arcos hospital. His wife was unharmed.
Emergency services were alerted around 8.30pm, prompting a swift response from the Guardia Civil and Local Police. Investigators began searching for witnesses and reviewing security footage from nearby cameras to identify the perpetrator. Shortly after the attack, a burning vehicle believed to be the getaway car was discovered in an underground tunnel on the AP-7 motorway. A second car, a Seat León, suspected to have been used to collect the gunman, is also being sought by the authorities.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the gunman escaped immediately after the attack. The victim’s wife, a key witness, is providing a statement to aid the investigation. Meanwhile, the Guardia Civil is working to establish a motive, with a potential personal dispute or criminal reprisal emerging as the leading theories.
The Guardia Civil has confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage, and the search for the attacker continues.
