Baby dies in Almería after clandestine circumcision
Unqualified "doctor" has been jailed, while the parents are released on bail

According to investigators, the infant’s parents, of Malian origin, paid the man €100 to carry out the procedure. After noticing the baby's deteriorating condition, they took him to a local health centre on Calle Maximiliano around 9pm, but medical staff were unable to save his life.
The Guardia Civil arrested both parents and the man who performed the circumcision. The case is being investigated by the 7th Court of First Instance and Investigation of Roquetas de Mar.
The alleged perpetrator has been remanded in custody without bail. According to the High Court of Justice of Andalucía, he lacked medical qualifications and carried out the procedure “without the necessary hygiene measures.”
The parents have been provisionally released, but have been banned from leaving the country, and remain under investigation for alleged reckless homicide. They are required to appear in court on the 1st and 15th of each month and are prohibited from leaving the country.
An autopsy is being conducted by the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) to confirm the cause of death. The investigation remains open and authorities have not ruled out further possibilities of similar cases.
Government sub-delegate in Almería, José María Martín, expressed his “shock” and “regret” at the incident, saying that, “any practice of this kind is reprehensible.” Martín also acknowledged the professionalism and efforts of the health workers involved who tried to save the baby's life.
